01 · the problem
The Health Promotion Board runs the National Steps Challenge, Singapore’s national physical-activity programme, which rewards citizens for clocking steps and weekly activity. Participants need to book appointments: to collect step trackers, and to get hands-on help with the Healthy 365 app. When a national programme opens registration, the entire eligible population arrives in the same few days, so the booking portal’s hardest requirement is its first week, not its steady state.
02 · what i built
Built as a web app on the studio’s cross-platform stack, sharing a toolchain the team already worked in rather than standing up a separate one. The architecture was planned around the launch spike from the start, because the failure mode for a government service is not slow, it is unavailable on the day the campaign is announced.
03 · what happened
The portal handled over 350,000 bookings in its launch week, and drew more than 4 million impressions in the same period.
